OPTIMATION ULTRASOUND-ASSISTED EXTRACTION OF LUTEIN FROM Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting the extraction yield of lutein from Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms’s leaves. The investigated factors include type of solvent (methanol, ethanol, n-hexane), solvent/material ratio (10/1, 20/1, 30/1, 40/1, 50/1 mL/g), ultrasonic power (150, 187.5, 225, 262.5, 300 W) and ultrasonic time (15, 20, 25, 30, 35 min). The extraction efficiency was shown by the content of lutein measured by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Then, the lutein extraction conditions, namely solvent/material ratio, ultrasonic power, and ultrasonic time, were investigated to optimize by using the response surface method. The results showed that at the optimal conditions, the solvent/material ratio was 20.16/1 (v/w), the ultrasonic power was 249.38 W, and the ultrasonic time was 31.6 minutes to obtain the lutein content is 592.95 ± 2.13 mg/kg CK.
