Abstract

Hoa An district, part of the Non nuoc Cao Bang geopark, holds outstanding value in geology, geomorphology, and biodiversity, bringing numerous benefits in economics, science, education, and aesthetics (UNESCO, 2015). However, due to significant geological and human activities, the area frequently faces risks such as flash floods and landslides. This study employs the AHP method combined with GIS to assess landslide vulnerability in Hoa An district, considering factors such as population density, birth rate, population over 44 years old, gender ratio, labor rate, landslide hazard maps, and land use status. The results show that topography (slope), population density, and access to basic services are key factors influencing vulnerability, with 66 % of the area classified as having moderate to very high landslide risk. The study's findings suggest that the AHP method can be widely applied to mapping vulnerability in other regions of Vietnam, especially in areas lacking detailed landslide damage data.
