Impacts of solid domestic waste on the Dong Van karst plateau global geopark environment

Abstract

This article presents research findings on the current status, causes, and impacts of solid domestic waste on the environment in Dong Van karst plateau global geopark. The research shows that common solid waste found in the natural heritage area of Dong Van karst plateau global geopark includes plastic bags and bottles. The causes and impacts of solid domestic waste on the environment of Dong Van karst plateau global geopark are mainly due to tourist activities, infrastructure construction, and activities of restaurants and hotels. The article proposes solutions based on current legal regulations and opinions from residents and tourists: Prohibiting the sale and use of plastic bags and single-use plastic products in tourist areas, replacing them with environmentally friendly products; Establishing recycling points, and increasing garbage collection frequency, as well as providing on-site collection services for tourists; Implementing creative education and communication programs to raise awareness and change community behavior.
