7. Assessing the current situation and proposed solutions to improve the efficiency of domestic solid waste management in Thach Da commune, Me Linh district, Hanoi city
Abstract
This study focuses on assessing the current status of generation and management of domestic waste in Thach Da commune, Me Linh district, which is under pressure from rapid urbanization and limited public awareness in waste treatment. The research results show that in Thach Da commune, the coefficient of generation of solid waste per capita is 0.99 kg/person/day, and the management of domestic solid waste still has many shortcomings: waste has not been collected completely, with the main component being food waste (47.6 %), but only 16.7 % of households classify it at source, collection equipment is lacking and waste collection points are not hygienic, outdated vehicles (handcarts) and infrastructure is not adequate. Most of the waste is buried at Nam Son landfill. Song Hong Clean Vegetable Company is responsible for collection, with a collection rate of 98 % and appropriate collection fees. According to the forecast results, the volume of solid waste generated in Thach Da commune by 2035 is 7,840.2 tons/year. Based on that, the report has outlined 6 waste collection locations and 2 new collection routes to increase the efficiency of waste collection in Thach Da commune.
