17. Research proposed the model of plastic waste management with community participation for tourism activities at Xuan Son park national, Phu Tho province

Abstract

This study is based on the results of a sociological survey on the current usage and the amount of plastic waste generated at Xuan Son National Park, Phu Tho province to build a plastic waste management model with community participation for tourism activities at Xuan Son National Park. Based on the plastic waste generation coefficient of Phu Tho province in 2021-2023 for residents of 19 kg/person/year, tourists staying at 0.3 kg/person/year and non-stay tourists at 0.72 kg/person/year, the study calculated that the total amount of plastic waste generated annually at Xuan Son National Park is 5,216.3 kg/year, within 3 years the amount of plastic waste from tourism activities increased 2.57 times. Plastic waste is a polymer compound that is persistent in the environment, toxic to organisms, and human health. On that basis, it is proposed to build a plastic waste management model with community participation for tourism activities in Xuan Son National Park to have close coordination and supervision from management agencies to the community, people, and tourists together classify, collect, and reduce plastic waste emissions, contributing to protecting the environment and natural ecosystems.
