9. Sustainability assessment of community-based tourism in Hung Lo ancient village, Phu Tho province

Abstract

This study aims to assess the sustainability of community-based tourism activities in Hung Lo ancient village, Van Phu ward, Phu Tho province, across three dimensions as economic, social, and environmental, based on the Global Sustainable Tourism Council criteria. The research applies a sociological survey method using structured questionnaires administered to 32 residents participating in community-based tourism. The results show that community tourism activities in Hung Lo ancient village have positive effects on governance and social development, reflected in the effective operation and fair distribution of benefits, creating consensus in the community of the management board; Creating regular jobs for people (90.6 %); Promoting the development of other economic sectors; Improving tourism skills and improving the quality of life for local people (100 %), especially preserving and conserving cultural values ​​and ancient landscape architecture. However, the current model still reveals certain limitations in sustainability, reflected in the small scale of community participation, monotonous tourism products, lack of overnight accommodation, low income, and environmental protection work not being given due attention. The study has proposed a number of solutions to develop community tourism in a more sustainable direction in the coming years.
