20. Assessment of the current status and proposed solutions for medical solid waste management at Duc Giang General Hospital, Hanoi city

Abstract

Medical solid waste management is a key component in protecting the environment and public health in healthcare service delivery. This study was conducted to assess the status of medical solid waste management at Duc Giang General Hospital, Hanoi city, and to propose appropriate management solutions. The results show that the classification, collection, storage, and transfer of medical solid waste at Duc Giang general hospital have been implemented in a relatively systematic manner and in compliance with current regulations. However, several limitations remain, including limited awareness among some patients and their relatives, as well as shortcomings in supervision and guidance on source waste segregation. Based on these findings, the study proposes several solutions to enhance the effectiveness of medical solid waste management at the hospital in the coming period.
