Evaluate the efficiency of fishing in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province

Abstract

Fishing is a key economic sector with many advantages in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province. This study uses some criteria to evaluate the efficiency of fishing sector in Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan on 3 aspects including economics (exploitation value, profit, profit rate); environment (marine environmental quality, aquatic resources) and society (number of employees with jobs, labor incomes). The study results show that Phan Thiet fishing sectorhas relatively high economical efficiency. The environmental quality is not a present concern. However, it is necessary to improve the control of fishing means. This sector also has quite high social contribution. Although fishing is currently quite efficient in Phan Thiet, the sector is still facing many difficulties and and limitations, especially the risk of resource depletion. In future, it is necessary to conduct a full assessment of fishing efficiency to develop effective mearures for more sustainable fishing in Phan Thiet
