The assessment of natural disaster impacts on the community of Quang Binh province
Abstract
Quang Binh is a coastal province located in the narrowest East - West part of Vietnam. With a steep terrain, sharply divided by stream and river systems, Quang Binh is one of provinces in the Central Vietnam that extremely affected by natural disasters, especially hydro-meteorological natural disasters. Therefore, the assessment of natural disaster impacts on local communities in Quang Binh province is vital in order to actively respond to natural disasters and conform the national target program on climate change. This study was used statistical methods, field surveys and sociological surveys to determine the impact of different types of natural disasters (i.e. storms, floods, flash floods and droughts) on districts/cities in Quang Binh province as well as evaluate the level of community concern with occurring natural disasters. Results of this study will provide information for the province to actively prevent, combat with and mitigate natural disasters in the context of climate change.
