09. Salinity intrusion and livelihoods of communities living along Thi Nai lagoon, Binh Dinh province

Abstract

This study aims to impacts of saline intrusion on livelihoods of communities living along Thi Nai lagoon. Salinity data was collected from previous studies and primary data were collected through survey of 140 farmers, 9 local authorities living along Thi Nai lagoon in early 2019. The results showed that Thi Nai lagoon is very sensitive and easily exposed to the manifestations of climate change and sea level rise. Livelihood resources, such as natural, human, physical and financial resources are significantly affected by saline intrusion. Recommendations for future research on climate economics and adaptation to ensure community livelihoods have been proposed.
