13. Research on the situation and propose solutions to improve solid waste management in Nhơn Chau island, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province
Abstract
According to the Law No.72/2020/QH14, the Law on Environmental protection is regulated the management of domestic solid waste, separation of domestic solid waste at the source will be mandatory before being collected and transported to the treatment area. In that context, Nhon Chau island is one of the wards/communes in Quy Nhon city that has implemented the classification of domestic solid waste at source and treated effectively. All households, agencies and businesses in the commune have 3-compartment trash cans for sorting; 71 % in West village, 86 % in Middle village and 46 % in East village still maintain the classification of domestic solid waste at source after the project period. 100 % of the waste is collected and transported to the landfill. Currently, the main treatment of domestic solid waste in the commune is still a burning method, 12 % of households implement the model of making compost but not regularly. The development strategy of Cu lao xanh without plastic waste has been set out and is on the way to building a new and enhanced rural commune in the 2021 - 2025 period. Therefore, solutions to improve local solid waste management are essential.
