14. Influence of personal characteristics on people's participation in the collection and classification of domestic solid waste in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province

Abstract

This paper presents the research results on the influence of personal characteristics on people's willingness to participate in collecting and classifying domestic solid waste in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province. Also, it proposes some solutions to improve the efficiency of domestic solid waste management in rural coastal areas. Statistical analysis results show that the factor “environmental knowledge” has the greatest influence. Therefore, the Nam Dinh provincial government can choose solutions to improve knowledge and attitudes about the environment to promote people's awareness, attitudes, and behaviors on domestic solid waste management as well as the behavior of classifying domestic solid waste in households to help minimize the amount of domestic solid waste discharged into the environment. Therefore, domestic solid waste can be treated to the lowest level, reducing pressure on domestic solid waste management agencies. The study has proposed appropriate measures for each factor affecting people's awareness, attitude, and behavior on domestic solid waste management, solutions for knowledge factors, attitude factors, and more solutions on human resources, and infrastructure resources. This is necessary for activities to promote domestic solid waste classification to minimize the amount of domestic solid waste that needs to be treated while also raising environmental awareness, attitudes, and behaviors, contributing to protecting the environment.
