06. Research on the effects of heavy metals from metal casting activities on water quality in Tong Xa village, Yen Xa commune, Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province

Abstract

This study is based on the results of sample water analysis: wastewater, surface water, and groundwater in traditional villages of Tong Xa, Yen Xa, Y Yen, and Nam Dinh to evaluate the impact of wastewater from the metal casting process on the water environment quality of Tong Xa village. According to National technical regulations on wastewater quality, surface water quality, and groundwater quality, compare the analysis results of water samples to conclude the content of Fe, Mn, Pb, Zn, and Cr in water. Almost all analyzed samples had heavy metal content many times higher than National technical regulation, especially at surface water points near discharge points, heavy metal content was 2-7 times higher than National technical regulation. Thereby, we can see the impact of metal-casting wastewater on the water environment of Tong Xa villages. On that basis, several management, technology, and communication solutions are proposed to improve and minimize environmental impacts.
