01. Monitoring mining activities by using satellite imagery data and UAV images: a case study in Yen Bai province

Abstract

Monitoring mining activities is the inspection and examination of mineral exploitation of organizations and individuals complying with the license generated by competent State agencies in order to detect and handle illegal mining activities. In fact, illegal mining activities often occur in remote areas where have poor infrastructure and difficulties to get into. Using remote sensing data is able to monitor a large area, objectively and have the ability to update and process information quickly. This study aims to detect environmental impacts from mining activities using remote sensing tecnology. Both satellite imagery data and UAV images were used to accurately detect spatiotemporal variation of mining areas, contributing to the management of environmental resources.
