Abstract

This study assesses the current situation of teaching and learning Table Tennis at the Center for Physical Education and Sports – Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The research analyzes the course structure, teaching facilities, faculty qualifications, instructional methods, and students’ learning outcomes. Results show that while the curriculum is systematically designed, instructors are highly qualified, and basic infrastructure is in place, the prevailing teaching approach remains traditional - centered on lecturing, demonstration, and repetitive practice. These methods limit students’ active engagement, critical thinking, and collaborative skills. Performance on technical tests remains inconsistent, particularly in backhand stroke execution. Based on these findings, the study recommends pedagogical innovation through active learning approaches, with an emphasis on implementing project-based learning (PBL). PBL offers opportunities for experiential practice, team collaboration, and creative problem-solving, which are essential to developing comprehensive competencies in physical education and aligning with the broader goals of higher education reform.
