QUALITY OF LIFE OF POST-STROKE PATIENTS BEING TREATED AT NAMDINH TRADITIONAL MEDICINE HOSPITAL IN 2017

Abstract

Objective: To describe the quality of life and identify related factors of post-stroke patients being treated at Traditional Medicine Hospital in Nam Dinh province2017. Method: A descriptive study involved253 post-stroke patients in Traditional Medicine Hospital in Nam Dinh province and Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QoL) was used to measure the quality of life of participants, and classified into levels of good, moderate, and poor quality equal to 196-245, 99-195, and 49-98 points, respectively. Results: the mean score of physical, functional, psychological, and family and social supports were 45 ± 10.74 points, 50.56 ± 14.64 points, 24.66 ± 5.71 points, and 17.66 ± 4.08 points, respectively. The overall mean score of quality of life calculated by using SS-QoL scale was 137.88 ± 32.47 points. Of the 253 post-stroke patients, the percentage of poor quality of life was 93.3%, only 6.7% of them were being of good quality of life. The result also revealed aging had a negative effect on quality of patients’ life, meanwhile, the patients with high education, better function, normal IBM, and health insurance had higher scores of quality of life than the others(p values less than 0.05). Conclusion: The quality of life of post-stroke patients within the study was poor. Level of education, daily function, IBM, and health insurance had a positive effect on the patients’ quality of life.
