Home health care needs of cancer patients in Danang Oncology hospital
Abstract
Objective: Assess home health care needs, as well as identified related factors of home health care needs of cancer patients in Danang Oncology hospital. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 95 cancer patients who were older than 18 and received first treatment and then second hospitalized at Danang Oncology hospital from May 2021 to July 2022. The Cancer Survivors’ Unmet Needs (CaSUN) questionnaire was used to measure the home health care needs of cancer patients. Data were analysed by SPSS 20.0 software. Results: Mean score of home health care needs was at a moderate level (Mean= 3.48; SD = 0.81). Additionally, male patients (r = 0.81, p = 0.03), breast cancer type (r = 8.73, p = 0.03), and received chemotherapy method before discharge (r = 9.04, p = 0.04) showed a significant correlation with home health care needs. Conclusion: The home health care needs of cancer patients in Danang Oncology hospital accounted at a medium level. This study will support improving health care service quality and raising awareness of nursing when providing care for cancer patients in the community
