Self-care knowledge of patients with chronic heart failure at Viet Nam – Thuy Dien Uong Bi Hospital in 2022

Abstract

Objective: To description of knowledge and practice of self-care of chronic heart failure patients treated at Cardiology Department, Viet Nam – Thuy Ddieen, Uong Bi Hospital in 2022. Method: A cross-sectional study design was conducted among 78 patients with chronic heart failure hospitalized at the Cardiovascular Department of Viet Nam – Thuy Ddieen, Uong Bi Hospital. Results: The mean age of study patients was 64.49 ± 12.28; the male/female ratio was approximately 1/1. The percentages of patients who had the average levels of self-care knowledge were 53.8% and only 10.3% of patients who had the perfect level of self-care knowledge. Self-care knowledge of patients with chronic heart failure participated in the study was low with the mean score of 11.18 ± 3.72 points out of the total 20 points, the lowest score was 2 points, and the highest score was 19 points, in which self-monitoring and activity areas with the lowest 3.0 ± 1.52 points, reaching 50% of the maximum points. Conclusion: The self-care knowledge and practice of patients with chronic heart failure was not enough. This affects the effectiveness of treatment and disease control, and the quality of life of the sick person decreases. Therefore, it is necessary to continue promoting health education and propaganda for patients with chronic heart failure.
