Change knowledge and attitude for treatment compliance after health education of people with occupational pneumonitis chronic outcome at Lang Son province Hospital

Abstract

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a health education intervention on the knowledge and attitude of treatment adherence of outpatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Lang Son Provincial General Hospital in 2021. Methods: A pre-post comparison intervention study on a single group of 65 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease randomly selected from January to April 2021. The intervention included providing information on the disease, treatment and prevention measures for patients. Results: After the intervention, the knowledge and attitude of treatment adherence of the patients improved significantly compared to before the intervention. Specifically, the proportion of patients with correct knowledge increased from 41.5% to 76.9% immediately after the intervention and 70.8% after 8 weeks; the proportion of patients with correct attitude increased from 56.9% to 90.7% immediately after the intervention and 84.6% after 8 weeks. The knowledge score increased from 15.9 ± 2.4 to 23.3 ± 5.8 immediately after the intervention and 22.2 ± 5.9 after 8 weeks. The attitude score increased from 3.9 ± 0.2 to 4.1 ± 0.2 immediately after the intervention and 4.0 ± 0.2 after 8 weeks. The difference between before and after the intervention was statistically significant (p <0.05). Conclusion: The health education intervention contributed to improving the knowledge and attitude of treatment adherence of outpatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Lang Son Provincial General Hospital. Therefore, the application of this intervention needs to be maintained and expanded in patient care.
