EVALUATING THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT ABILITY OF RAMIE (BOEHMERIA NIVEA (L.) GAUDICH) FROM DIFFERENT INITIATING MATERIALS AT PRACTICE AREA OF HONG DUC UNIVERSITY

Abstract

In vitro culture with many advantages such as large numbers of seedlings, genetically homogeneous was one of proposed methods for Boehmeria nivea (L.)
Gaudich propagating. In this study, three materials were tested including: stem cuttings, seeds, and in vitro seedlings. The results indicated that the highest survived percentage of Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaudich at the nursery stage was 72% at the treatment of stem cutting seedlings on soil- sand (1:1) substrate. Also at this treatment, the ability of height growth was fastest. However, at the treatment of in vitro seedlings, the branching speed and number of leaves were the highest (4.4 branches/plant and 19.2 leaves/stem, respectively). These results open the hope that the yield of Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaudich from in vitro seedlings could be much higher than these from stems or seeds.
