Abstract

According to statistics from the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO), Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) is among the 15 most common cancers in Vietnam. ADAMTS9 plays an important role in apoptosis, blood vessel formation, and the inhibition of cell proliferation in NPC. Changes in the ADAMTS9 gene will affect the process of cancer formation; therefore, a survey of the methylation properties of the ADAMTS9 gene in Vietnamese NPC patients was conducted. In the study, 30 NPC swab samples and 30 healthy swab samples were used to investigate the methylation status of the ADAMTS9 gene using the Nested-MSP method. The results recorded the methylation frequency of the ADAMTS9 gene in NPC samples and healthy samples at 50.00% and 3.33%, respectively. Moreover, the OR index was recorded at 29.00, sensitivity and specificity at 50.00% and 96.67%, respectively. The study has initially succeeded in establishing a process to investigate the methylation properties of the ADAMTS9 gene in NPC disease in Vietnam, aiming to develop a potential biomarker for early detection of NPC for Vietnamese people in particular and NPC disease in general.
