Researching the Impact of Tariffs on Vietnam's Exports to Countries in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

Abstract

This study aims to assess the impact of tariffs on Vietnam's exports to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) countries. The study uses data from 2001 to 2020 to estimate the impact of tariffs on Vietnam's export value to CPTPP countries. The results show that the tariff reduction has a positive impact on Vietnam's exports to CPTPP countries. Besides, the trade openness of Vietnam and CPTPP countries also have significant impacts on Vietnam's exports to CPTPP countries. Based on the research results, the article also suggests some policies to promote Vietnam's exports in the future. To boost exports to CPTPP countries, Vietnam should: (i) assist businesses in understanding the tariff policies in the CPTPP; (ii) improve the investment environment to attract resources for export production; and (iii) implement trade promotion programs to help businesses in accessing the CPTPP market.
