Study on synthesis, structure and biological activity of two new thiazolidine-4-one derivatives from 2-nitrovanillin

Abstract
Two new pairs of thiazolidine-4-one containing derivatives were successfully synthesized from 2-nitrovanillin by esterification, nitration, condensation and ring closure reactions. The structures of these two heterocyclic compounds were determined by MS, 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopic methods. The chemical shifts in NMR spectra have been assigned to the appropriate carbons and hydrogens. In addition, the antibiotic activity against Gram (+), Gram (-) bacteria, Candida albicans and cytotoxic activity against KB cell lines of compound (4a) has been studied.
