Essay of writings on materials of Chinese history of Nguyen Van Sieu

Abstract

    Nguyen Van Sieu, who is a famous author of Vietnam in medieval times, written inmany fields such as culture, thought, education, geography, literature, and history. Hiswritings on Chinese historical documents are named the Historical treaties of PhuongDinh's essay. Phuong Dinh's essay has been existing in 13 titles of the Institute of HanNom Research and the National Library. The best text belonging to the group of engravedprinting of Phuong Dinh's essay is determined on the basis of surveying the integrity ofthe book. Phuong Dinh's essay includes six-volumed-book, in which the Historicaltreaties belong to the sixth volume. Nguyen Van Sieu wrote about 24 sets of Chinesehistories. For each history, the author has brought basic information about its author, theorigin, and the basic content. Historical treaties shows the author's efforts and intellectualwisdom. It is an important foundation for judgments and comments on historical works.He commented on the style, the authenticity, and the compliment for the historical databased on persuasive investigations. From comments to historical works, Nguyen Van Sieuaffirmed the quality of chroniclers and laid down requirements on accessing historicalworks for readers.
