Situation of using detention pond in storm water drainage systems in some cities of the Northern delta, Viet Nam

Abstract

      This paper introduces overview of the role of detention pond in urban drainage systems and situation of using detention pond in five cities of the Northern Delta such as: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Hung Yen and Bac Ninh. The investigation results show that, the ratio of detention pond surface area and urban area is different between the cities and the use efficiency of the ponds is quite low. The paper also proposes some solutions in planning, design and urban drainage management in order to improve the integrated efficiency of detention pond in urban area in Vietnam.
