Abstract

Nowadays, daily operation and management (O&M) of irrigation systems (ISs) in Vietnam are mostly implemented according to established plans just before irrigation seasons or based on experiences of fixed irrigation intervals. In fact, various changes of meteorological factors result in changes in crop water requirements which are different from those calculated just before each irrigation season. Otherwise, daily changes of water resources lead to changes in conditions and water supply capacities of headworks and structures on irrigation systems which are also different from the data used for making the plans. Moreover, the fact is that there is often not full of feedback from real-time measured data on field water levels and soil moistures in root zones. Therefore, daily O&M of irrigation systems is often not reasonable and causes an ineffective water supply, high costs and low crop yields, etc. This paper presents the research results in the creating of the model for O&M of irrigation systems based on real-time measured data.

The research objective of "Model for operation and management of irrigation systems based on real-time measured data" is to propose and create a new model for updating real-time measured data, calculating and organizing, implementing O&M towards modernzation in order to improve

the technical - economic efficiencies of ISs. The research contents and results consist of:

- The practical and scientific rationales for O&M of ISs based on real-time measured data.

- Creating and applying the model for O&M of ISs based on real-time measured data.
