Renewable energy in viet nam: the main reasons for the development, resource potential and current status of exploitation

Abstract

    Most of our energy supply comes from fossil fuels as coal, oil and natural gas. However, fossil fuel energy is not sustainable. Burning fossil fuels for energy is one of the main contributors to climate change and it has serious impact on human heath. Furthermore, fossil fuel reserves are finite and are becoming depleted. Therefore, it is very important to find alternative energy sources such as wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy etc. that can supply clean, renewable energy to replace fossil fuels. In this paper, we give the main reasons why we need to devolope renewable energy, the potential as well as current status of renewable energy exploitation in Vietnam. Besides those, the primary barriers preventing us from developing and utilizing renewable energy sources are also presented.
