Researching impact of climate change and economic development on the water supply deficit of Yen My reservoir, Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province

Abstract

     Climate Change (CC) is one of the major challenges of 21st century. Rising temperature, changing rainfall, melting glaciers, rising sea level and extreme weather as a result of climate change has been seen worldwide. Yen My reservoir is located in Tinh Gia district, of secondary works, is a large reservoir with basin area of 137 kilometer square. This is a reservoir to supply water for agricultural land in geographical area of Tinh Gia district, supplying water for living, industries, minimizing flood for Thi Long River. This paper presents the results of research on water demand, source of input water and water balance under impacts of climate change and economic development. The results show that the demand for agricultural irrigation water increased significantly, along with the water demand for living, industry are great setting major challenges for water demand for Yen My lake. Specifically, water demand increased by 42,45% compared to 1980-1999 period in 2020 and 65,09% in 2050, corresponding to the B2 scenario.
