Abstract

Huong River is the largest one which plays an important role in the social-economic development of Hue province. Physically, the Huong river flow is profuse, but varies in time. In order to neither control flood nor improve the water exploitation/use ability, many constructions have been built in the river basin. Consequently, the Huong flow regime is dramatically governed due to the appearance of various hydropower reservoirs in the upstream leading to the conflicts between local stakeholders - especially, between flood control and hydropower generation.

Therefore, solutions copping this problem would be effectively solved unless the cooporated interreservoir operation is made. This paper presents the application of MIKE 11 model to analyse the effectiveness of the reservoir operations for flood control. As expected, the research results will be used as scientific basis for establishing multi-reservoir regulation for exploitation and water resources usage within the Huong river basin.
