Study the transboundary conflicts in surface water uses on Srepok river basin

Abstract

     Srepok is international river basin with area of upstream belongs to Vietnam and downstream area belongs to Cambodia. Srepok river basin plays very important role in social and economic development and international relations between two countries. Its water resources are very high potention with 9.7 billion m3 per year in the part of Vietnam. Recent years, in the upstream area (Vietnam) there are very fast development in social and economic with large irrigation area and many reservoirs for irrigation and hydropower, specialy there are 7 hydropower reservoirs. These developments have created many impacts on environment and transboundary conflicts in surface water uses between upstream and downstream areas. This study mentions assessment of the basis transboundary conflicts in surface water uses on Srepok river basin, and from that make an orientation for mitigating these conflicts.
