Energy security of transmission systems in the competitive electricity market

Abstract

    Transmission systems are necessary to ensure the reliability and energy security. In the mechanism of competitive electricity market, transmission grids are (and will be) under great pressure as overload, network congestion. This is due to following reasons: the power source is operating under the market mechanism; large customers are more sensitive to the quality of power supply; the development of renewable energy sources (mainly wind energy), or delay in renovation investment perspective and energy policy. The trend for expanding the electric system to a level of multinational power also sets out new requirements for transmission grids. This study also proposes the strategic solution for the problem of energy security of the transmission system.
