Abstract

This paper presents the morpho-dynamics processes of an idealised coastal inlet under influence of waves and currents using the processed-based modelling system, Delft-3D, developed by WL|Delft Hydraulics. Although this study apply only for an idealised coastal inlet, but the simulation results have shown the agreement with the empirical parameters for inlet stability and accordant to the phenomenon which has occurred and observed in the field. The study could enhance background knowledge on the morphological of tidal inlet and might help to explain events which have occurred at a tidal inlet in the past. This also helps to quantify the relationship between the empirical parameters of inlet stability to dynamic factors such as waves and currents to the morphological of tidal inlet.
