The threshold of emergency spillways and controlled flood water level in a reservoir

Abstract

     The global climate changes and natural resources exploitation of countries have caused flood risks to hydraulic head works of reservoirs. We know that many dams on the world have been damaged by great flood. One of the solutions is to build the emergency spillways. In which, the spillway threshold is an important problem. This paper recommends a concept of controlled flood water level in a reservoir and discusses on the main factors and conditions for choosing the threshold of emergency spillways
