Some issues relating on dyke and embankment system in Ninh Thuan province and appropriate solution proposal

Abstract

      Although the growth of the economy is slow and encountering many obstacles, the coast of Ninh Thuan province has considerable potential for economic development. The system of sea and river-mouth dikes have not been received adequate investment, elevation of dike crest is below the tide, dyke cross-sections have not met the design standards, which usually leads to the degradation after each rainy season. On the other hand, the global climate change and the sea level rise phenomenon have made sea dikes system more and more seriously degraded. In the near future, Ninh Thuan will focus on developing multi-sector economy. Hence, the demand for protecting the people lives and property is increasing. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the system of sea and river dikes; to study and develop projects which strengthen and upgrade the existing sea dikes; to propose types of dykes crosssection structures which are suitable for each type of terrain, geological regions and usage condition and environmentally friendly. It is also important to invest in upgrading and building a tight and effective management system.
