Experiences of caisson construction at extension of Tien Sa breakwater project – Da Nang

Abstract

      Viet Nam with 3,260 km coastline. The protection and exploitation for potential of sea economic is associated with the development of the country. Simultaneously with the develop more and more with large number, larger scale, increasing diversity of functions for all kinds of marine works as breakwater, shoreline protection, water basin protection to avoid storms, port, island protection works, airport on island ect., Those works have been researched and built popularly in the world and our Country. However , marine works are still remaining problems unsolved well.

      Therefore, many problems about structures and stability of the works under the actions of the elements during construction and operation conditions, led to the incidents causing damage at the different levels. Those problems are caused by general layout, structure of works, and soil foundation treatment and construction technology.

     Over the last 20 year of experience in implementation directly in the actual marine construction works with accumulated new knowledge of Marine Science and Technology in order to share experience to my colleagues the " Sequence and Technology of caisson construction" has been applied successfully in Cai Lan deep sea port project in Quang Ninh Province (2000-2003) and Tien Sa Extension of Breakwater project in Da Nang (2005-2007).
