Abstract

Shrimp farming model is developing very strongly in recent years in Mekong delta area. This model is highly profitable but requires high investment, operating costs and the high demands on water quality. Currently, salt water, freshwater are from canals (level 1, 2) and ground water sources. They are not guaranteed for quantity and quality. This paper proposes salt water supply technologies directly from the sea using pumps and pipes with 2 alternatives: pump directly from the sea to shrimp farming areas (ponds) and pump indirectly (from the sea into the reserves pond then pumped into shrimp farming areas. The paper also proposes to use rainwater harvesting technology through roof systems and ponds, water storage bags for shrimp supply water (ponds diluted). These technologies have been applied to the model test of intensive shrimp farming in Bac Lieu
