Simulation of storm surge and inundated mapping for Phu Quoc island

Abstract

    Phu Quoc is highest island in Viet Nam with very high poential for socio-economic development. So appropriate planning and functional zoning for Phu Quoc will support to strongly develop in this area. One of very important issue to make spatial planning of Phu Quoc is to consider natural disasters in which super typhoons and storm surge is high risks. In this study, storm surges caused by typhoons is simulated with scenarios prposed by Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and inundated mapping. Results used to prepare inundated maps to surve marine spatial planning including socio-economic development and residential planning as well as propose solutions to prevention and mitigation of damages caused by storm surge during typhoons.
