Application of CFRP cable for concrete structures and application prospects in Vietnam

Abstract

    Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) is a new material with many advantages compared to conventional reinforcement including: high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance and high fatigue resistance. Therefore, CFRP has potential manufacturing in cable and replacing steel in concrete structures. The aim of this approach is to bring efficiency in improving strength and durability, especially for construction projects in coastal and marine environment. The development history, characteristics, prospects and challenges of the application of CFRP cable for concrete structures will be presented in this paper. The paper is hoped to be a useful document for design engineers as well as researchers for the prospect of applying CFRP in concrete construction engineering in Vietnam.
