VIETNAMESE QUANTIFYING ADVERB 'CHỈ' AND ITS EQUIVALENCES IN CHINESE
Abstract
Due to Sino-Vietnamese contact, in Vietnamese there is a large number of borrowed from Chinese quantifying adverbs, which contribute to the repertoire of Vietnamese vocabulary. The quantifying adverb "chỉ ” (only) is a typical example. In terms of relation with Chinese, "chỉ " is not just equivalent to “…” (zhi), but also “…” (jin), “…” (guang) and “…” (jiu) .... However, among them there are also certain similarities and differences. In this article, we hope to point out the similarities and differences between "chỉ " in Vietnamese and the equivalences in Chinese, which intends to make a contribution to the Sino-Vietnamese comparison.
