SOME IMTERESTING NOTES ON THE SPATIAL ADJECTIVES IN ENGLISH
Abstract
The real world is basically the same but the way people perceive it differently in different countries. This is clearly reflected in human language which is not coincided between nations. However, the peculiarities of thought and language are not sufficiently presented in dictionaries. That is why, it is necessary for us to study on this problem to get profound understanding of semantics of words. The group of words concentrated on in this paper are spatial adjectives with vertical length such as high, tall, deep, thick in English and cao, sâu dày in Vietnamese. Since English and Vietnamese people structure the world in a different way so when learning English, Vietnamese learners are easily confused when using these spatial adjectives. ue to the framewor of the paper and the sense of the magazine “ anguage and ife”, the writer only focuses on several typical but interesting examples concerning the different cognition about the real world. The other aspects in the domain of high learning and academic knowledge are not analyzed in details so that readers can catch the idea of the writing without any difficulty.
