Nguyễn Đăng Sửu
Abstract
In the teaching and learning of foreign languages, learners not only have good knowledge of the languages they are going to deal with but understand profoundly their cultures as well, since cultural factors exert major impacts on their language communication. English people have nomandic culture. They highly appreciate privacy and punctuality. They greatly esteem time, that’s why their language (English) has developed systems of times and aspects. Whereas Vietnamese have wet-rice culture. They highly appreciate their relatives. They love saving face, polite and indirect communication. The above- mentioned proves that Vietnamese learners of English should have a good command of the cultures of these two languages
