Layout features of fairy tales in English and Vietnamese from Vladimir Propp's viewpoint
Abstract
Based on Propp's theory, this paper presents the results of a conbastive analysis on 10 English fairy tales and 10 Vietnamese ones in order to highhght their layout features as well as the similarities and dififerences between the two languages in temis of this genie. Approaching the English and Vietnamese fairy tales as written texts - the products of discourse processes, the paper focuses on identifymg the specific functions of the objects under study with a view to helping language teachers and learners understand more about the discourse features of fairy tales in English and m Vietnamese. The findings of the study can be applied in researching, teaching and learning the two languages.
