Abstract

Objectives: To describe the compliance to vitamin-K resistive anti-coagulant in patents who had artificial heart valves replacement at Vietduc University Hospital in 2019 and analyze associated factors.

Research methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study, selected all eligible participants within the time of data collection. Data was collected in the rib-cage and cardiovascular consulting-room of Vietduc University Hospital from April 2019 to June 2019. A total of 285 outpatients who had a replacement with artificial cardiac; prescribed with vitamin-K resistive anti-coagulant for ≥ 1 month participated in the study.

Results: The rate of compliance with general treatment was 58.2%. The rate of compliance to vitamin-K resistive anti-coagulant based on the Morisky measurement scale was 93.3%. About 68.8% of patients who complied with diet; 85.3% limited their alcohol assumption. Factors associated with the treatment compliance included gender, marital status, cardiac valve replacement time, atrial fibrillation/arrhythmia, and distance from houses to the hospital (p < 0.05).

Conclusions: The rate of compliance to vitamin-K resistive anti-coagulant is low and associated with various factors such as gender, marital status, operation time and distance from houses to the hospital. Therefore, further consultancy and explanation to male, unmarried, and patents who had replaced cardiac valves for more than one year were needed.
