Hand hygiene knowledge and practice of healthcare workers at Son La traditional medicine hospital in 2021

Abstract

The cross-sectional study was conducted on 82 healthcare staffs, who directly perform professional work at 7 clinical departments to assess the knowledge and practice about hand hygiene of healthcare staffs at Son La Traditional Medicine Hospital in 2021. The results showed that the right knowledge of doctors and nurses about 5 points that needs hand hygiene was 100%. The percentage of doctors and nurses, who followed to hand hygiene at the time after contact with the patient^’ secretions and blood was the highest (89%), the lowest was at the time before the aseptic procedure. 74.4% of doctors and nurses arranged in the correct order 6 steps of hand hygiene, followed correctly 6 steps all reached >95%. 90.2% of doctors and nurses had right knowledge about hand hygiene; right practice was 45.0%. Son La Traditional Medicine Hospital should conduct the regular training and monitoring activities on hand hygiene compliance for medical staffs.
