Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is currently a burden of the worldwide and Vietnam in particular. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that in 2019 around 10 million people were newly infected with TB globally.

Objective: the study aims to describe the treatment results of patients with new pulmonary tuberculosis AFB (+) at 71 Central Hospital in the period 2019-2020.

Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted from January 2019 to June 2020. A total of 321 patients was selected, based on retrospective medical records of patients.

Results: the study showed that 7.14% of patients had unwanted effects of anti-TB drugs such as rash, joint pain, digestive disorders and vestibular disorders. After 6 months of treatment, the systemic manifestations of high fever and night sweats completely disappeared, the symptoms of hemoptysis, chest pain, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain decreased significantly (p<0.01); Miniature lesions reached a high rate of 98.3%. The rate of negative AFB sputum was 100% with the patients adhering to the treatment. The rate of cure reached 91.6%, no patient died, the rate of treatment abandonment (3.43%) and no evaluation because of transferring to another facility (accounting for 4.98%).

Conclusions: it is necessary to well implement the coordination processes between medical facilities and specialized hospitals in TB examination and treatment activities in the area, ensuring the provision of information on diagnosis, treatment and follow-up during treatment and after the patient recovers. Moreover, strengthening IEC to the patients on basic knowledge of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis is also suggested.
