Abstract

Microcredit is a form of small-sized credit that credit institutions grant to poor households. Currently, microcredit services are provided by 3 groups of organizations: The formal group includes: Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Bank for Social Policy, and the system of credit cooperatives (formerly people’s credit funds); The semi-formal group includes non-governmental organizations, credit programs of unions; The informal groups operate in the form of tontine, borrows from relatives or individual loans at high interest rates. The poor households benefiting from microcredit services is now numbering more than 6 million, through distribution channels mainly from the official group; in which, the Bank for Social Policy covers 100% of communes and wards nationwide.
