RESEARCH ON THE LOCAL COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN HUE’S TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

In order to truly develop sustainable tourism, local communities need to be educated, empowered, and enhance their participation in the decision-making process in the tourism development plans. This research was conducted to analyze the current status of local community participation in Hue’s heritage tourism development activities. The research results show that the local community has not had really aware of their important role in engaging in the activities of heritage tourism development and making the decision for the policy yet. Besides, there were five barriers affecting the participation of local communities in tourist activities Hue heritage. Therefore, the implications for management and development to change mechanism – policy; capacity building and awareness to the community as well as to attract the participation of the community in tourist activities had been suggested.
