AN ANALYSIS ON MATERIALISM UNDER THE VIEW OF AMERICAN LITERATURE IN 20th CENTURY
Abstract
Materialism is a topic which most of the American literature works tended to examine during the beginning years of 20th century because of the quickly economic changes in America. The article presents an analysis of the concept of materialism in American literature writings and how people pursue materialism in America, and describes the historical background of materialism in America and the setting of American literature during the twentieth century. Hence, it explores the complexities and problems associated with materialism, money and happiness in American society. Also, this paper analyses the relationship of materialism, money and happiness through American literature writings such as The Egg by Sherwood Anderson and The Blues I’m Playing by Langston Hughes.
