Abstract

In the context when the feudal dynasties of Vietnam had not been any foreign agencies, diplomatic activities of the dynasties were based on the talent officers, the culturists who had great expertise in geography, history, literature. In the early independence, they first were intellectuals of Buddhism - the first intellectuals of the nation, who played important roles for national politics. Do Phap Thuan was one of these typical intellectuals. He was not only known as a geographer, historian, culturist but also an excellent politician and diplomatist. What made up the diplomatic style of Do Phap Thuan? In the context of the beginning of the independence era, what did he contribute to the country's diplomacy? These will be the central issues that we will focus and clarify in this article.
