FEATURES ON EMPHASIS IN ENGLISH PASSIVE VOICE FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE SYSTEMIC FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR OF M.A.K HALLIDAY

Abstract

Passive in English is usually an issue that linguists study with a variety of views and language schools. The paper aims to describe and analyze the emphasis of English passive sentences from the systemic functional grammar point of view of M.A.K Halliday. Accordingly, the emphasis of English passive sentences is described and analyzed basing on the structural aspects of functional grammar: the structure of Theme-Rheme, the structure of Mood and the structure of Transitivity.
